In a continuing effort to encourage newer amateur radio operators to set
aside their 2M hand-held transceivers and enter into the mainstream of
amateur radio -- HF operating -- QCWA Chapter 119 introduces the Worked
All 10 U.S. Call Areas Award. The following is the formal announcement
of the award. Full details and a sample of the award is featured on the
Chapter 119 web page: http://qcwa-ch119.org. Please have a look and
then look for one of the newer amateurs in your area and be an Elmer and
get that person on the air. All QCWA will benefit from your
involvement. 73, Vic Culver, W4VIC, Secretary, QCWA Chapter 119, Inc.

Worked All U.S. Call Areas Award

Sponsored by: QCWA Chapter 119, Inc.

Objective. This award is established to encourage newly licensed
amateur radio operators to become active in High Frequency (HF) amateur
radio activity. The award provides an achievement goal for the new
operator, or any operator beginning to explore the HF bands. The
activity provides an opportunity to gain skill in HF operations.

Because operators with beginning licenses have limited access to the
amateur radio bands on 160 through 10 meters, provisions have been
established in this award to permit HF operation under the guidance of a
mentor, or Elmer, who can, if necessary, act as a control operator
providing assistance in on-the-air operating. Becoming involved in HF
operations will assist the new amateur operator to gain operating skills
and to earn higher classes of license with increased operating
privileges. Earning this award marks a significant step in advancing
into the mainstream of amateur radio operations.

Award. To advance this stated objective a certificate award is
available to any amateur radio operator who makes two-way contact with
other amateur radio operators on any of the amateur radio band in each
of the ten call areas of the United States. Contacts may be made using
any mode (CW, SSB, Digital) on any HF frequency (160 through 10 meters)
permitted by the class of operator license held by the individual making
application. If the applicant is operating with a control operator,
then the applicant may use any frequency legal to the control operator.
The control operator must validate the contact with initials and call
sign. (See application form)

Application. Download and print the application form from the QCWA
Chapter 119 web site http://www.qcwa-ch119.org. The application form
must be filled out completely. For each call area list the call sign of
the station worked in that call area, the date of that QSO, the time
(Universal Coordinated Time (GMT)), the frequency/band, the mode of
operation, and the signal report (RST). If appropriate for the QSO
listed, the control operator must initial and include his/her call sign
in the space provided.

Space on the application form is included if you want to list a mentor
(or Elmer) who is a major influence in your amateur radio development.
If you do not wish to have this name included on your certificate then
leave this space blank.

Your personal information is required at the bottom of the application
page. Please PRINT the name exactly as you wish it to appear on your
certificate. The address you list should be the one where you receive
your mail. Please don’t forget to sign the application form.

Co-Sign. The application must be co-signed by another licensed amateur
radio operator who can confirm your operations on HF radio. This need
not be the same person as the control operator(s) (if applicable) on the
contact list.

Mail the Application. After signing the application, mail it to the
address listed along with $3.00 to cover mailing and handling costs.
Your presentation quality certificate should arrive in a few days time.
