You can also use a wire clothes hanger and do this. Just scrape or sand off the coating at the end of the coat hanger that is going into your so-239 or BNC or SMA connector. You have to make the wire a little smaller for an SMA so you may need to use a fileinding wheel if one is available.

A simple 19" quarter wave whip works on both 2 meters and 440.
You can make one out of #12 household (THHN) wire and an SO-239 connector.
