[QCWA] Happy 100th Birthday to Allen Richter, W4PHL

Distinguished QCWA Life Member # 6262 Allen R. Richter, W4PHL was born on June 16, 1916, As a young man, Allen showed an early interest in radio as well as aviation. He took his Amateur Radio exams in Davenport, IA in 1932 at age 16 and was issued the call W9NJD, back in the days when Iowa was in the ninth call district. Allen continued his studies and passed his First Class Radiotelephone exam, which also gave him Class A amateur privileges, and found employment at Davenport broadcast station WOC. He joined the Army Signal Corps in 1941 and was sent to Ft. Monmouth, NJ for training and, in Feb.1942, volunteered to be part of a special OSS unit operating in the China Burma India Theater. In Dec. 1942, Allen established a command post and served as Signal Officer of OSS Detachment 101 until 1945. He is a retired Army lieutenant colonel. Allen enjoyed a long career in electronics and communications with Press Wireless Manufacturing, the Singer Company, the American National Red Cross and Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management and others. In addition to QCWA National and Palm Beach Chapter 111, Allen is a Life Member of the Jupiter-Tequesta Repeater Group and also holds memberships in ARRL, OOTC, Potomac Valley Radio Club, EAA, AOPA and OX-5 Aviation Pioneers. Allen is married to Irene and they share time between Jupiter, FL and Bartlesville, OK. Happy Birthday Allen and we look forward to visiting with you and Irene next season at Chapter 111. QCWA
