Ladies and Gentlemen: The January meeting of QCWA Chapter 119 will take
place on Friday, January 15, at 12:00 noon at our regular meeting place,
Frankie's place for Ribs, 5200 Fairfield Shopping Center, Virginia
Beach, VA. Members are encouraged to attend if possible. Your BOD is
working hard to provide a plausible excuse for you to claim an extended
lunch hour or as an opportunity to break some other less attractive
option conflicting with this time slot. One should always take
advantage of opportunities such as this.
The 'secret' program that has been mentioned will not be presented at
this January meeting. There were too many elements that had to come
together in too short a time frame. We gave it a real good try,
however. With the permission of the BOD the program, still 'secret',
will move to the February meeting. In its place for the January
meeting, we will attempt to sharpen your anticipation of two very major
DXpeditions that will be starting just about as we conduct our meeting.
Brief clips from previous DXpeditions to South Sandwich and South
Georgia Islands will be presented. Each clip is about 5 minutes in
duration, and the clips come from a compendium of nine such short
programs summarizing some of the all-time great DXpeditions. If time
and interest permits we may be able to screen another one or two clips.
These clips are not all static shots of operators and radios, but they
show and tell the interesting aspects of preparation, travel to the
locations, and a bit of the environment at those locations. Fair
warning: You MAY see a radio or two in operation. But only briefly.
These clips allow you to experience (albeit second hand) places and
events that most likely you will never experience any other way. The
programs should be interesting to anyone, not only to DXers.
So -- as always, spouses and friends are most welcome at QCWA events.
If you want to have a friend then BE a friend and bring someone to the
meeting with you.
Please also remember our QCWA HF and VHF nets that meet every Sunday.
The HF Net, with WQ4CWA as NCS, begins at 0800 hours local time on 3.947
MHz (aka 3947 Kilocycles for those who feel more comfortable with that
designation). For those who have church/Sunday school obligations we
take 'short-timer check-in' and give you an opportunity to keep in touch
with fellow QCWA members and friends. During periods of good
propagation we have check-ins from as far North as Maine, as far West as
Ohio, and as far South as Florida. There are no population centers
(short of EU and AF) close enough for reliable communications on 75M on
our Eastern side. The VHF net meets at 2100 hours local time (9:00 p.m.
Sunday evening) on the 146.79 MHz wide area coverage repeater located in
the Deep Creek, VA area. NCS is WQ4CWA and your participation is
earnestly solicited. If you are visiting our area please remember to
check in.
I would like to share a pleasant time with you on Friday afternoon, and
again on our Sunday morning and evening nets. 47 & 73, Vic, W4VIC,
Secretary, QCWA Chapter 119 Inc.
