Hello, Thrill seekers. A late announcement but an early indication of
great fun and fellowship to be had at the January meeting of QCWA
Chapter 119
FRIDAY, JANUARY 16, 2015 AT 12:00 NOON.
Our meeting is at Frankie's Place for Ribs (the best ribs in the
Tidewater area, and you can take that straight to the bank!) in the
Fairfield Shopping Center, 5200 Fairfield Shopping Center, Virginia
Beach, at the corner of Providence and Kempsville Roads (behind the bank
and Hardees). Gathering begins a bit before noon and lively
conversation driven by the month-long estrangement (since our last
meeting) keeps everyone happily engaged until it is time to order lunch
from the menu. After lunch we quickly dispatch with any 'business
items' that there may be and then settle in for an interesting program.
The program for January involves our own Treasurer, Barry, K5VIP, who is
a major contributor to the Air Force MARS Phone Patch Net as AFA3CU.
Gone are the days of dozens, if not hundreds, of 'health and welfare'
messages from deployed Air Force personnel contacting home. Replacing
that good work is a life-saving hand outstretched to our high flyers who
criss-cross the country and the oceans carrying out their designated
world-wide missions. This activity is one very much appreciated by
pilots, navigators, and flight engineers who find themselves in
difficulty in flight. Air Force MARS is a sought-after mode of
assistance with which most all flying personnel are familiar. Barry
will relate stories of thrilling rescues engineered by being on hand to
provide the needed link between those in peril and those on the ground
who might help. And sometimes the link provides evidence of the amusing
side of seriously intended operations. Along with his talk a
semi-professional video presentation of the Air Force Phone Patch Net
activity will be shown.
If you are visiting in our area, please do try to find time to join us
on Friday afternoon. If you are a member, or a prospective member, and
don't have to punch a time-clock, take an extra few minutes for lunch
and the wonderful QCWA fellowship that permeates the occasion. If you
live here then we surely hope to see you. Support your local QCWA
Chapter and the folks who work hard to give you the kind of QCWA
organization you can be proud to claim as your own. See you on Friday.
