With deep sorrow, I report the passing of Gerson "Gus" Levy, W2LAP. Gus
passed away at age 93 on Monday and was buried today in New Jersey.

Gus, late of Chapters 181 and 46, was a decorated WWII combat veteran,
skilled machinist, auto mechanic and businessman. He was first licensed
in 1938 and a life member of QCWA.

I met Gus through the Chap. 46/181/CONEX net on Sunday mornings. Gus
welcomed me as a newcomer to the QCWA nets and we became good friends. He
understood and appreciated the different perspective of a guy like me, 30
years his junior. He also made the most iconoclastic statement I ever
heard from an "OT," that most of his peers worked CW only because they
lacked the money to purchase the parts to make a modulator - imagine a
space-cadet like me hearing that from a guy in his late 80's! I'll miss
his wisdom, humor and our (sometimes weighty) conversations on and off the
air.

To his XYL Francine, daughter Marcie, grandchildren and extended family,
on behalf of our chapters, I offer my sincerest condolences.

Mike Sturm, KA2E
