Sorry, but I also gotta say also that my 12AVQ worked incredibly well with
my first station in '72. It was mounted to the rail of my 3rd floor
terrace in Brooklyn. I ran barefoot and had no radials, no antenna tuner
and just a single wire "kinda/sorta" counterpoise hanging down off the
terrace.

All those log entries and great sig reports from people around the world
who weren't supposed to be able to hear me must have been beginner's luck!

Well, I've learned a lot in 40 years - now I use a set of parallel dipoles
with a tuner. I do have an amp - not that I use it much - and I still get
great reports from all those people that can't possibly hear me with 100W
and a dipole :)

Take care and 73!

I knew I'd get at least one of these "Mine works" in reply to my post.

And what is the KEY difference here? Radials and lots of them. And
a ground mounted Vertical, not one up on the top of a push up pole.

If you feel up to an experiment, disconnect your radials and let me
know how well your vertical works. If you're feeling really ambitious.
put it up on a 20-30 foot pole with only a 6-8 radials.
