[QCWA] QCWA and OOTC

Tnx Bob, and tnx to the few online and many offline inputs I received, some
obviously having some very deep understanding of both organizations, some
also very passionate, pro and con.
It is patently clear that a few feel that one or the other organizations may
be 'polluted' (my term) if merged. While I recognize that the QCWA was
formed by six amateurs back in '47, so the OOTC was (as I read it) also
formed by amateurs. I guess I saw 'Quarter Century Wireless Association' as
a name a little more broad in scope, like that of the OOTC, which is why I
raised the issue. Didn't see the words 'amateur radio only' embedded in the
name.
In any case, I wish more of the 6000 members would express their views on
topics (any) within the scope of the QCWA, it seems that only a few, very
few, do. Kinda reminds me of how we deal with issues nationally. Surely more
input would help the Officers and Directors in carrying out their duties.
In any case, I respect those concerns and opinions voiced and will not take
this issue further.
Thanks to the Directors and Officers of QCWA for giving me a place to raise
questions, pass information and voice concerns. It is more than many other
organizations do.
Carry on!

No, OOTC is not a spin off, it was also founded in 1947. Since we were
founded in December, they probably predate QCWA.
OOTC has a requirement to be involved in wireless communications 40 years
ago. They couldn't have a 'licensed 40 years ago' requirement in 1947
because in 1907 there was no licensing authority.
See www.ootc.us for more info if you're interested.
The QCWA Board of Directors responded to this idea about 7 years ago and
there wasn't much interest in pursuing the idea from either group at that
time.
Some Hams are members of both groups.
Call sign and address changes would make merging the 2 databases a
nightmare.
