If anyone has a 1963 or 1964 Ham Call Book would it be possible for you
to look up the 5 area call sign for Rane Scott Joseph "Scotty" Bernard,

Scotty was killed in a tragic accident during Hurricanes Hilda in 1964
when the storm pushed over a water tower on the CD location in which he
was operating.

The info is at
http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/vpkids/vp/Erath/erathhistory/HurricaneHilda/WakeofTragedy.htm

I submitted the info to the author of the QST article (in the new issue)
on the monument to hams killed while providing public service and we are
looking for Scotty's ham call.  It has just been too long to remember it.

I know that this is a lot to ask (going through the 5 area looking for a
name but it is for a good reason.  He was a friend of mine and had left
the Lafayette CD station earlier that day to go operate the one closer
to his home in Erath, La.

Hi Art,

I wish you all the best in your effort to honor your friend.

The call books were sorted by call signs, an almost impossible task to find
with out it.

Other places where Scotty's call may be listed:
field day logs often list the operators.
minutes from a local radio club.
a photo album
the manual for a piece of equipment purchased from the estate.  The name and
call might be written somewhere on the cover or the sales slip might be
inside.  I've seen both.
talk to old neighbors and friends, someone might remember the phonetics
Scotty used.  My grandsons know my suffix is uniform foxtrot.
Was there a newspaper article written about the water tower collapse?

I wish I could be more help.

gl es 73,
Bob, N0UF
