[QCWA] Q-Signals

This is pretty timely,

On another E-Mail list I am a member of, I was shot down by several
there on my thoughts of the meanings of QRM and QRN.

Yes can you believe that? Two of the most basic and most common of all Q
signals, and there was a strong and heated discussion of their meaning.

It all started because a fellow amateur had bad power line static, and
he kept referring it to QRM. Because it was "Interfering" With his
listening abilities.

As much as I tried I tried to explain that QRM in my mind is
interference caused by like another HAM or other like foreign broadcast,
or a man made INTENTIONALLY made signal.

And QRN is "Noise" be it powerline, lightning or any other random
"Sparking" type of "Noise" Not a true "Transmitted" types of signal that
is interfering.

I was shot down BIG time by many on this other E mail list saying, that
the definition is if it is man made then it is QRM, and if nature made
it it is then QRN.

am I nuts or are they?
