[QCWA] Membership & Choices

Out here in my part of NE Oregon I am pretty much isolated from amateur
radio groups, QCWA being no exception. It seems the nearest meetings
are in Boise, ID, about 140 miles away. So, although I crave the
fellowship of ham radio enthusiasts with similar interests it just
doesn't happen very often. You folks that have chapters close enough
to enjoy are very fortunate indeed. Still, it was my choice to
relocate to this lovely mountain valley.
I've been following the discussions on QCWA membership over the past few
years and it occurs to me that if there are folks that insist that they
should have membership in any particular organization and believe that
the entry conditions are too odious I have a suggestion for them.
Instead of working so hard to change what is obviously abhorrent to
them, just go out and create their own organization. If they want a
"QCWA" that is not the Quarter Century Wireless Association then why try
to join and change it? Why not create, for instance, the Wireless
Association with it's own rules of charter? No muss, no fuss and
everyone is happy. Happy unless their main intent is to harm that
original organization.
As far as the QCWA's officers work: They have a very hard job to do and
may have to make some very hard choices in order to maintain a viable
organization. I may not agree with all their choices but they are the
ones who must ultimately make them. As far as this Associate
Membership thing goes, although I have been adamantly against it, I have
come to the conclusion that it will all depend on the defining of the
term "Associate". I would like to know what is meant in that term...
rights, privileges, etc.. Perhaps they could create a membership class
of QCWA Supporter. Same meaning I guess, in a different wording.
I do not envy our leaders their task, but whatever their decisions, I
will continue to support them in their earnest efforts to serve the
membership.
