Too far from home to attend but I will try and work them

Coincidence was that, a week or so ago, I was sitting at the La Dept of 
Motor Vehicles getting my driver's license renewed. Noticed an older 
gentleman sitting across from me with a cap that said US Air Force.

Guy sitting next to me had been talking to him and I overheard him to 
ask "How long were you a POW"?

My ears perked up and I asked the gentleman where he was imprisoned
He replied that he was a Bataan Survivor and had ended up in Manchuria.

He lives in a local town and was there for his wife's license renewal

After thanking him (heck - there is no way to do that, really) we talked 
about service in general.

He mentioned that he had written a book.

I have ordered a copy with the hopes that I can him to sign it for my 
Army son (currently in Yemen)

What a great day to meet someone like that.

I know this is not QCWA or ham related but I thought most of the older 
guys on the list would enjoy the story.
