I am a life member and would like to protect my investment in QCWA.
tanding by and watching $21 THOUSAND lost due to unfilled hotel bookings
s without a doubt beyond reason. When I reserve a block of rooms at a major
otel , it is for a certain number at a certain price. There is a deadline
ate at which time the hotel releases the rooms. Those wishing to attend
ust make their reservations directly with the hotel PRIOR to the cutoff
ate and indicate they are part of a specific group to receive the
uaranteed price. If 0nly 50% elect to do this, my group loses the
dditional reserved block of rooms after the deadline with NO PENALTY
TTACHED. Meals are booked the same with the sponsoring organization. The
rganization has a price and cut off date from the hotel. After that date
dditional meals beyond a nominal percentage ( usually 10% ) will incur
dditional cost. These are written into binding contracts that are APPROVED
y the person or Group that is responsible for paying the expenses. Was this
one at the 2011 Convention ??
I do not want to be a part of the problem, rather I want to be part
f the SOLUTION.
Steve WF2S

OK, I don't see a pissing match here. Just a few folks upset by the loss of $21k, which is understandable.

WF2S has a valid point and it sounds like the CONVENTION COMMITTEE fell down on the contract end. QCWA should not have been charged for unused rooms because after a certain date hotels release prereserved blocks.

I think part of the problem is lack of oversight from National. Correct me if I'm wrong, Bob -- when a chapter or chapters undertake to host a convention, other than the official QCWA imprimateur, I think everything is worked at a local level. So if QCWA ended up $21K in the red, I think this is a wake-up call for contract oversight from the QCWA Board. I agree with WF2S that this expense should have been avoided. Lesson learned the hard way, in the pocketbook.
