Hi Lloyd and Everyone:

Here in LA our longtime QCWA VHF-UHF net control station Bill Hawley,
W6ZRZ, sk'd a few weeks ago. Bill had given about 50 years service to
QCWA by running this net. He missed only a few nets in 50 years! Bill
will be missed. He was a fixture on the DARN.org Repeater Network. I
met Bill in 1975 when I started off as a Novice. Bill was a movie sound
man. When I need to adjust my audio or get a new mic, Bill's advise
never steered me wrong in 35 years. I will have more to share about Bill
once I get my personal ham site back up. I have been too busy with our
new Novicehistory.org website to worry about my personal ham website.

You are very correct, we have Echolink on DARN. Try K6VGP-R Node:
8722. We welcome all check-ins. Lloyd said we are the only active QCWA
Net on Echolink. If you are in a situations with no or few choices but
Echolink, please check in. Right now we are having the net Sunday
nights at 7:30pm PST. Keep in mind next Sunday the time will change,
fall back 1 hour. Its also Halloween so if you are mobile, watch out
for the kids. I am open to restarting the 10am net if anyone is
interested in being part of the team to call the net. I can help
coordinate but Sunday mornings does not work out for me.

Let me also say in closing my 1960 Novice history article is at the
printer and will be in the next QCWA Journal. Starting this issue I
have incorporated historical material from the recently available online
QST library. The articles will cover shorter periods of time in more
detail. I also have in the current K9YA Telegraph, free online ham
magazine, the start of a series of articles on the traditional elmering
relationship. The series publishes letters between an new ham and his
elmer.

73, Cliff
