Convention Update:

News from the QCWA 2011

International Convention Committee

This is the first convention committee news brief on our planning progress for the 9-11 September, 2011 QCWA International Convention. We will keep the chapter abreast of our progress with an update in every newsletter right up to the time of the convention. You can be proud of our New England chapters as, so far, we have 3 out of 5 Chapters represented on the committee. The committee currently consists of:

Convention Chair - Skip Swenson, WB6VVA (Yankee Chapter)

Convention Co-Chair - Ray Makul, K1XV (Twin State Chapter)

Convention Activities Chair - Tony Manna, WA1ENO (Yankee Chapter)

Registration/Treasurer - Skip Swenson (Acting), Janice Lentz, K4IJK, Registration On-Site Support

Tours Chair - Bob Smith, KK3P (Yankee Chapter)

Publicity Chair - Ray Makul

Speakers - Al Cohen, W1FXQ (Nutmeg Chapter)

Hospitality - Anne Manna, WB1ARU (Yankee Chapter)

The committee gathered at the Crowne Plaza at the Crossing in Warwick, RI on Sunday, 14 March. A tour of the hotel was provided by the sales manager with a short meeting with she and a representative from the Warwick-Providence Convention and Visitors Bureau. We provided them a description of our organization and goals for the convention. We then held our first committee meeting and developed a fairly lengthy list of action items. We were then provided a fine lunch by the hotel and Skip met with the sales manager again and signed a contract committing QCWA to holding the convention at the Crowne Plaza next year. All committee members are now actively engaged in working their specific areas with the plan to meet again at the Boxboro Hamfest in August. If anyone in the chapter would like to support our committee or help us during the weekend of the convention, please contact Skip Swenson at wb6vva at arrl.net or call 978.779.6468.
