Howdy Dave.....

I trust that you and yours had a great Holiday.

Dave, you have done it again!.........Congratulations on the well written article in the January issue of WorldRadio Magazine entitled: "Thoughts On the QCWA, HF & Condo Living".

The article is especially appropriate in that many of our Members for years have become "antenna spoiled". They purchased homes back in the 50-80's when outside antenna restrictions were relatively uncommon. Now, as they decide to downsize  and move to a smaller home or perhaps even move to a condo, townhouse, or even an assisted living accommodation, they are suddenly shocked to learn that their ability to legally erect an outside antenna threatens their very hobby!

Dave, as you pointed out, in such living environments, one must resort to a stealth-type antenna as an obvious first choice. I also am a firm believer in QSONET / CQ 100. Some hams periodically have told me that "CQ 100 is not real ham radio because RF is not being utilized for the transmission, etc"  Dave, I have always agreed with that type comment but qualified that statement with the following: "If you were living in a location that would not permit the erection of any type of antenna, would you rather quit ham radio or operate on CQ 100 and continue to interface with your ham peers?........The answer that I always get is "Yes". As I travel about the country attending hamfests on behalf of the QCWA, I also find that operation on QSONET / CQ 100 from my hotel room to be a very relaxing way to end the day. One can find out more about this mode of operation by going to: www.qsonet.com

Dave, for clarification, after one accesses the WorldRadio Magazine at http://www.worldradiomagazine.com/ , it might be confusing for some of our Members on how to proceed to find your/other articles............The "secret" is to merely left-click on the front magazine cover and then one can either scroll through that issue of WorldRadio or save it to a file in your computer. Personally, I prefer to save all issues on my computer so I can read at my leisure.

Dave, again great article and hope to see you at the QCWA Convention in Rhode Island in 2011.

Best regards,

Val Erwin
