"Easy does it..." seems to always work the best and taking a casual social
demeanor is comfortable for older members
as well as prospective members or even guests. One account I read on this
topic mentioned a rude response to an
inquiry about visiting a chapter meeting. Of course that was one grouchy
guy in a Walmart. HIHI!

Twenty years ago I was the chapter president for the South Texas bunch. Our
policy then was that anyone not terribly
disruptive was welcome to sit in on our meetings if they could tolerate
those of use who had missed their meds and were
out of sorts. HIHI. Really, our open door practice worked out well and one
thing we did was invite the leaders of the other
radio clubs to be speakers on topics of their best activities [and invite
their members to hear their leader speak].

A QCWA chapter meeting can be a challenge to preside due to the fact that
everyone there knows more than you! They
do! All my mentors were in that chapter. So a respectful sense of humor
goes a long way in keeping the meeting
rolling with an emphasis on the motto: If it isn't fun don't do it! Our
meetings were really fun and our speakers were
typically 30-40 years of age with some radio adventure under their belt.

I really have no advice on how to add to your membership but what I do know
is that QCWA is a social organization first,
last and always, so make it enjoyable if not belly laughing funny. Not only
did we get the OM's coming in droves their
wives insisted on coming too. Yahoo! Next thing we knew we had Elmers
bringing their young charges to tell a story of
their first QSO, visiting hams from the USNaval station and USCG Super Group
station and other military personnel showing
up in uniform to tell of their tours and theater amateur radio activity
[shhhh! It happens].

Anyhow I think maybe we beat this poor horse to death and are still riding
the pathetic thang. From here I'm walkin.
Sure is great to be able to associate with all of you this way. Beats 20m
RTTY but I've been there too. HIHI.
Has your state of the art experimental station become a famous BOAT ANCHOR
now? Should that be a special designation?
