Hi Val and All,
Our local .76 (W9UFF) repeater has had EchoLink on it for a number of
years. A few years ago I was out for a morning walk with my HT and worked
one of our club members (who takes care of our EchoLink) from his hotel room
in Tokyo Japan. It was like Mark was standing right next to me. We have a
number of stations that checkin from all around the world. It's a nice
addition to the repeater.

Subject: [QCWA] Dallas Chapter 41 Members in awe!!
Howdy QCWA Members:
Today, we held the March Chapter 41 Meeting in Dallas, TX that turned out
being somewhat unusual......
The program was presented by Don Shelton, K5OK and Val Erwin, W5PUT who
discussed the following VoIP modes of operation: IRLP, EchoLink, and QsoNet.
During the course of a live demonstration of EchoLink, we were honored with
a surprise visit by National QCWA President, Bob Roske!
No, Bob did not fly to Dallas but he was able to publicly address the
Chapter via EchoLink during the meeting. At the time, Bob was actually
operating mobile in Hutchinson, MN on his way to a Skywarn school. How was
this accomplished?....At the meeting, via EchoLink, we accessed the KB0WJP 2
M repeater in Hutchinson, MN and the connection was made to Bob on his
mobile 2M rig!
The majority of the Chapter attendees that had never been exposed to
VoIP/EchoLink were in total awe that they were hearing the voice of the QCWA
President coming out the PA speaker!
Why not try this at your next Chapter meeting? Once you get Bob Roske
talking, he is a virtual perpetual motion machine........... a natural trait
of any politician.......ha!
Seriously, TNX Bob for "dropping in" on the Chapter 41 meeting !
