Chapter 91 Election of Officers for 2009
----------------------------------------------------------
Dick Rucker, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, will nominate the
following who have consented to serve, if elected, during 2009:
President..................................... Tim Donovan, WA4CLK
Vice Pres. & Program Chair.......... John Reiser, WQ4L
Treasurer..................................... Nelson Seese, W4BHD
Secretary.................................... Carol Cutchall, WA4GFW
and Leila Cutchall, WN4PP
Dick will also ask for other nominations from the floor before calling
for a "second" to the candidates offered and calling for the vote.
Nominations from the floor are encouraged!
Featured speaker:
--------------------------
Following the election, James O'Neal, AG4DH, will discuss
"Transmitters I Have Known -- and Some I Haven't," a story of the
evolution of the "continuous-wave transmitter" from its earliest
implementation as a "Poulsen arc" oscillator, through the high-speed
alternator, and then on to Lee de Forest's "audion" vacuum tube and
other vacuum tube-based designs. He will show lots of photographs of
these, trace the quest for higher and higher power transmitters, and
discuss both designs and actual transmitters.
You may recall that James made an outstanding presentation on radio
pioneer Reginald Fessenden at our 2007 Christmas Luncheon. For a
reminder of that program, go to:

and scroll down to the heading: "8 Dec 07: Christmas lunch; James
O'Neal, AG4DH"
"James E. O’Neal is technology editor at TV Technology magazine. He is
a member of the IEEE, SMPTE and
SBE, and is a graduate of the University of Arkansas." This quote is
from a recent article he wrote for the IEEE Broadcast Technology
Society Newletter on the invention of vestigial sideband modulation
for TV broadcasting.
