I keep forgetting, text only...
Hello Gene,
Nice to meet you here. My bio on QRZ is about correct. I went to
change it and seems I have forgotten my password, oh well! I was in the
US of N for 21 years, 1947-1968. During the time frame of 1955-1957 I
was at OCS in Newport, RI (4 months)and then to the USS Charles P. Cecil
DDR-835(3 yrs). Once I left Westover AFB in Holyoke, MA in the Summer
of 1955 I lost track of VR-6. Too busy doing other things. The Cecil
was a real challenge and kept me very busy as a new Ensign and ASW
Officer. I also went to Key West for two months of Sonar school for
that job(Oct-Dec 1955). Hey those were the days, right? I was licensed
as w4thn in late 1949 while at NATTC Memphis, TN. I held wa1uju and
w8zqi over the years but asked for w4thn back when I came to Virginia
Beach, VA in 1972. It was available so they gave it back to me. Oh
yes, I was an AT when in VR-6. Also I have been to McGuire once or
twice flying through. I don't remember Lt. Wexler.
We have enjoyed taking cruises on the "White" boats. Better service
than on the "Grey" boats, heh heh. But wife Dorothy got sea sick on a
cruise out of Norfolk in Feb '06 and swore she'd never go again. So my
only way to go on a cruise now(sailing single) is on the various Ham
Radio Cruises. They don't have them every year so I organized one in
2006 and I have another one coming up this year Oct. 13-19, 2008 sailing
out of Norfolk, VA here to the Bahamas. Next year I'll jump on the QCWA
sponsored HRC out of FL. Where there is a will there is a way. Fun,
fun! My web site is http://hamradiocruises.com
<http://hamradiocruises.com> so you can check that out. I don't make
any money on them but they are fun.
It has been really hot here in VB this week. Broke records (>100)
on two days. Like most old guys (78) I stay indoors in the AC days like
this.
73's,
