[QCWA] Whither 25 years??

Ladies and Gentlemen: WHO STOPPED THE CLOCK? Who is responsible for
all those calendars that so many of you seem to have that don't change
the week OR the month, say nothing of the year. This MUST be the case,
as all these doom and gloom comments about QCWA running out of 25 year
qualifiers seem to suggest that there are NO NEW HAMS ACHIEVING THE 25
YEAR QUALIFICATION!!

I beg to differ (so what else is new!). Every single DAY there are hams
reaching the 25 year tenure mark. What are we doing to add them to the
ranks of QCWA? It seems to ME that all we need to be doing is making
ourselves known as the QUALITY GROUP we have the potential -- AND the
track record -- to be, and we will gain our share of those 'new' oldsters.

The pond is NOT running dry. But we may have the inflow pipe clogged
with a certain amount of algae and/or other 'stuff' that may deter a
strong influx from this constantly increasing number of potential
members. Our job should NOT be to pull the plug in our own little
lake, but to make our waters as attractive as possible to these newly
qualified potential members.

If all the new contenders see is a bunch of old fogeys sitting around
arguing about what might have been then they will find other outlets for
their interest and commitments. It is for each and every one of us to
find his or her own niche in the organization and to make our personal
commitments as positive and forward looking as we can. If our
contribution is nothing but filling a seat at a local meeting -- that's
fine. But support for the organization and a positive attitude and
outlook is what will help us to GROW, not doom us to stagnation.
Whatever we have to work with we must LEAD BY EXAMPLE -- that's what the
25 year qualification is all about. BE AN EXEMPLAR. We ARE good
enough, and if we SHOW IT then the 'new' guys will want to be just like
us!

SO -- JUST DO IT. Vic, W4VIC
