Well I am posting for the first time after reading a lot of posting that start the think juices flowing. I am a fairly new member only being a member for about a year. I got into amateur radio about 30 years ago because my son wanted his license.
Just thought I would throw in my two cents worth. I think the period between when the ballots were sent out and when they were to be returned was a little long. If it had not been for our Sunday morning hf round table and our Secretary Vic I would have forgotten.
Like I said I am a new member and I think what good would it do to change the requirement from 25 years to when ever. Looks like there is a lot of amateur radio originations out there they can join. I think a lot of people join the QCWA as a status symbol and never do anything about making it better. We have a great Secretary who is always getting the word out except when his computer doesn't work.
As our new president and board take office they should make their goals to get the members we have active. The 60-60 award was a good idea but it was hard to get members active on the bands to give amateurs a chance to contact them, I was 20 short and I tried hard. There should have been some set times for members to get on the air, sure would have made it more fun. I know we had the spring contest be I was unable to work it one day and it cut my time short. I worked as net controller for that day and couldn't use those contacts. My contacts as net controller was few and never have heard what the results of the contest was, one of my complaints it is taking too long to put the word out. The rules for the fall QSO party is posted on the web site but the results of the spring one has never been posted. Small thing but it might mean a lot to some people.
Lets come up with some ideas about making us stronger and not lower our standards, 73's to all and hope our new boards takes the ball and runs with it instead of status quo. The FCC has lowered the standards of the hobby, lets not do the same thing with QCWA.
