[QCWA] Quarter Century or Not??

I don't think we need to change the name to the NYMWA.
(New York Minute Wireless Association)

But.... There needs to be a realization that 25 years ago was
1983. The beginning of the computer revolution.

I think the point that needs to be addressed is that is is indeed
the Quarter Century Wireless Association, not the "We are
stuck in the '40s Wireless Association."

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy hearing stories about what it
was like being a HAM during WWII, but not to the extent of
those veterans being to only "real" HAM radio operators.

Being in my fifties, I cringe as well when I hear people my age
going on about "We were the only ones that knew how to do
drugs".

There are still people in the ARRL that think that code should
be a requirement. And there are others out there that insist on
referring to the new Extra Class licensees as "Extra Lite."

These are the people that are killing amateur radio. Not the
"noobs" (to use current vernacular).

Quit the hand wringing about the good old days and if you think
that HF and Morse Code are the "only true form of communication,"
get off you rear, stop sitting in the corner talking about your health
issues and talk to the young ones. Teach them the code, and stop
purposely sending sloppy so they can't decode your fist with a
Kantronics terminal unit.

A bit of personal history: I was first licensed in 1967. In 1971 I
was given a Teletype Model 15 page printer by my boss at
Signal One in Gardena. "Make it work with our radio." I thought
I died and went to heaven. I don't have to use a key and I always
thought I "sounded funny"

I may joke about "Real keyboards have Green Keycaps" but I
don't belittle those on packet, amtor or psk. And I still make it a
point to try and make one contact on SKN every new years eve.

As a friend of mine says, "Be part of the solution, not part of the
problem."
