Neighbors Restaurant
Vienna, VA

1. We will have lunch followed by our annual election of officers.
The slate proposed by the chapter's ExCom is:

President – Len Hook, KG6ZR (incumbent)
Vice President and Program Director – Tim Donovan, WA4CLK (incumbent)
Secretary – Carol Cutchall, WA4GFW and Lelia Cutchall, WN4PP
Treasurer – Nelson Seese, W4BHD (incumbent)

Additional nominations will be accepted from the floor prior to voting.

The newly-elected officers will take office on 1 Jan 08, but their
preparations for the coming year will begin just as soon as they are
officially elected. One objective will be to invite three other
chapter members to serve on the chapter's Executive Committee
(ExCom). Chapter 91 cannot survive without new blood and ideas
flowing into the planning and execution of its programs. In addition,
those who have served on the ExCom are likely to be the best
replacements for retiring chapter officers.

The way the ExCom has worked in recent years is this: Three chapter
members are invited to join the elected officers at their planning
meetings. These are usually held on a weekday immediately prior to
every scheduled weekend meeting or field trip. These meetings usually
begin at 11:30 a.m. at a local restaurant and are normally over
before 2:00 p.m. If you are a member-in-good-standing of Chapter 91
and are interested in serving the chapter in this capacity, please
communicate your interest to one or more of the chapter officers.

2. Carl Gray, W4ACM, 97 years young, has made arrangements to join us
to receive an important award from QCWA in the presence of his many
friends. The award will recognize the 80 years that have passed since
he was first licensed as 9EUH in 1926. At the time, Carl was a high
school student in Yankton, SD. QCWA President John Johnston, W3BE, is
expected to make the presentation.

3. Our featured speaker will be John V. Evans, N3HBX, who will
describe his new station, designed and built for serious contesting.

John was educated at the University of Manchester, England, where he
received the B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics in 1954 and 1957,
respectively. He emigrated to the United States in 1960 in order to
join the staff of the MIT Lincoln Laboratories. For the next 23
years, he pursued research in the scattering properties of meteors,
the Earth's moon, nearby planets, and the Earth’s ionosphere. In
1977, Dr. Evans became Assistant Director of the Haystack Observatory
for radio astronomy; in 1980, he became its Director and a full
professor at MIT. In 1983, he became Director of COMSAT Laboratories
in Clarksburg MD. He later became President of the Labs. In 1996, he
became COMSAT's Chief Technology Officer. He retired in 1990,
following the sale of COMSAT to Lockheed Martin Global
Telecommunications.

John is a formidable contester and recently put together what most of
us would call a dream station. John was first licensed as a
Technician in 1988 and now holds an Extra class license.

4. Our 33-33-33 Raffle will be conducted by Frank Haynes, W4NUA. One-
third of the day's take will go to the person holding the first
ticket drawn, one-third is added to a growing kitty that can be won
by the person holding the second ticket drawn, but only if that
person can also draw an Ace from a remaining deck of cards. If the
card drawn is not an Ace, then that card is torn up, thus improving
the odds of winning the cumulative pot at the next raffle. The
remaining one-third goes to the support of the Vic Clark Chapter.
Come prepared to buy a ticket and to take away some cash.

5. Bring in ham or computer items you no longer need so that they can
be auctioned off by Ray Johnson, K5RJ. All reasonable bids are
accepted, and everything will go home --- with someone!

Join us for lunch and have an eyeball QSO with new and veteran
members, learn something from the others at the meeting, and
contribute to the lively discussions which always develop!

I look forward to seeing you there.

73,

Tim Donovan, WA4CLK
Chapter 91 VP & Program Coordinator
