Carl......when I was a high speed operator at WAR during WWII 41/42 on the 
midwatch when things were a bit slower a lot of the operators tuned in a 
hometown AM big station on the monitor and patched it into the split phones. 
Besides WLW my favorites were WBZ in Boston, WGN and WOR all depending on 
receiving conditions.
