Under RECENT EVENTS:
====================
Friday, 19 Oct 07: Tour of the Naval Research Lab (NRL)
" One Sunday morning last summer on our 2 meter net, we were talking
about the history of radar when Mark Parent, KC4AFU, joined us. Mark
works at the U.S. Naval Research Lab where the principles of radar
were first exploited by A. Hoyt Taylor and Leo C. Young beginning in
1922.. Mark asked if we'd like a tour, and our answer was an
enthusiastic 'Yes!' ...
One treat was to have Ed Lyon in person with us as we watched a movie
made in 1988 of Ed talking to NRL staff about one of his favorite
subjects, the history of radar. Ed is a well-known radar expert at
NRL and has written over 120 papers on the history of radar in
addition to some 250 other technical papers and reports on radar,
countermeasures, flight simulation, and nuclear reactors. He holds
several patents in electronics and rocket propulsion. It was a real
treat to have him there in person to answer our many questions.
Two of his excellent papers are available here:

1. Ed Lyon, "The International Contest for RADAR,"
The AWA Review, Vol. 9, 1995, pp 97 - 180.
2. Ed Lyon, "The Real Story of the Magnetron,"
The AWA Review, Vol. 9, 1995, pp 181 - 204.
