I am assumming that the setup as you describred was the long range
comms system which was on a very low freqcy,  15 or 17 khz?  If I am
correct Honolulu Naval site also had one of these (I guess to supplement
coverage in the Pacific).    This was primarily a underwater submarine
activity (of course worked on surface too).  Honolulu stn had to
get some NYC indians to help with the installation at the Oahu site.
