Hey Norm,
Your right about FT Gordon being on top of Signal Corps history.
I finally found out from them the history of the "Col George Penrose"
foremerly "The Steam Yacht FLORIDA" which  VAnderbilt donated to the 
USATS.  I dont remember the 1st name before Vanderbilt got it!
I and one other military opr served on it as the 2 RO's during
Late 1940 thru 1941.   Also from FT Gordon they startled me by
saying that it originally was built and carried a 1st name that
we never knew about. I forgot what it was.

P.S.  we use to work WAR on daily skeds and If I remember correctly
       the Call sign was WUVJ
