Hi All,
There is NO requirement that local chapters must incorporate per our
National Constitution and By-Laws. Nor is there any reason to incorporate
just to allow tax deductions on donations as Gary has suggested.
QCWA Chapters are required to follow the Chapter Manual promulgated by
National HQ which should be followed and not as Gary suggests that "anything
you use to create the chapter can be changed at your desire. That includes
any Constitution or By-Laws you may need at some time.".
Bottom line is that I don't recommend any chapter to incorporate with the
attendant legal and tax issues that may arise, but any chapter should follow
the guidelines stated in the Chapter Manual. Now, whether this involves a
simple, informative, social gathering or a serious Roberts Rules of Order
session is up to the local chapter to decide.
I'm a member of QCWA, Pittsburgh Chapter 6, our meetings are quite
informal, short business discussion, a speaker on non-technical Ham Radio
subject (for the non-ham spouses), lunch and fellowship amongst all. We
have
a great time at our meetings!
