[QCWA] Licensed for 34 years...

Hmmm, I missed this thread for the first several days when I had family
around from out of town and wasn't checking e-mail.

I can't claim to be the youngest, but I tie with Walt. I was 14 in 1963
when I received my first licenses WN8JEI & WA8JEI. Anyone else first
licensed in that era will remember that there were different privileges
associated with the Novice and Technician licenses so I took and passed
both tests the same day.

I'm trying to remember if I was still 13 or already 14 when I took the
tests (birthday May 7), but I do remember that there was what seemed to
be an unreasonable delay in actually receiving the license. It turned
out this was just the time when the FCC was converting from a hand
issued licenses to the first computer issued ones and the system really
bogged down for a couple months that summer.

My dad, George was and still is also a ham (WA8BMG then, WC8X now) but
couldn't take the tests from a family member so Floyd WA8BUV actually
administered my tests.

Ex WA8JEI

Hi all,

Harvey, W4TG, congratulations on receiving your 75th year award. As I
said
earlier, I'm hoping to get mine in two years.

Bob, K2PI, looks as if you're the youngest, so far at 45. But you didn't
say how
old you were when you became eligible.

Norm, K1AA, you were 16 when you were licensed.

Jim, W5JO, you were 12 when you were licensed.

Jim beats Norm and me. I was 14.

And Ron, KX1W, my call is W2DU, not W1DU.

Walt, W2DU
