I have often wondered how Leo or World Radio managed to get a letter to me
with his QSL card sample before the FCC managed to get my novice license to
me. I took the Novice test in Feb. 1957 as a 12 year old and was really
beginning to wonder by June when I received a letter from Leo with my KN7ABX
call sign on it. About 10 days later I received my "ticket" from the FCC.
Did Leo have a spy in the FCC office?
I already had a Heathkit AR-3 built by then, but his letter convinced me to
save my paper route money for a WRL Globe Chief kit and later on, with a
General ticket I purchased the screen-grid modulator add on kit.
