I'm not sure but I know there were still questions about arc 
transmitters on the FCC test  when I took the exam for second telegraph 
in 1935. So I assume some US registered vessels were still using them 
then. But I did radiotelegraph watches on the Mississipi in 1937 and did 
not hear any then.
