HOSPITAL (BAH-HUMBUG);
Hello Everyone;
Well I've finally made it home from the hospital and by all
indications I am doing fine. It sure is nice to be free of all
the tubing and wires. (Three triple tap IVs one in each wrist
and one in the shoulder) Don't forget the feeding tube in the
nose and the required pee tube.
All of that is in addition to the breathing tube and/or tubes
stuffed down your throat through your vocal cords and anchored in
place with a balloon blown up behind your vocal cords and the
Five wires for the heart monitor stuct to your chest. Don't
forget the wire for the Oxygen monitor taped to your finger.
I went in the hospital with breathing problems on Thursday August
10th. The breathing problem is caused by heart problems that
don't allow it to pump enough blood and the fluid builds up in
the lungs. At this point I'm in a regular hospital room and
they are looking at a heart monitor I'm sitting on the edge of
the bed. They told me they were experimenting with various
drugs to slow my heart rate down I think it was about 140 and
they wanted to get it below 100. Apparently they found one that
slowed things down all the way down to 40. At this point I
passed out and they moved me to intensive care. (In short they
damned near made a SK out of me.) All the rest has been
recovery.
I want to thank all who sent e-mail. A lot of you sent e-mail to
Harold KA5AGM he would print them out and bring them to the
hospital and most of the time read them to me. I had trouble
reading because of all the tubes and no glasses. Thank you
Harold. There were others of course, SKIP N5CFM who did much the
same thing. Jim W5AI brought a MFJ keyer up and this made it
much easier to talk to Jim and a few others. It is much easier
to send CW than to write on a pad with my hands tied down. I
didn't think of it in time but a code reader would have made it
possible to talk to the nurses.
Any way I'm home now and want to thank everyone for everything.
I don't want to get in that position again.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You,
Gene Nailon K5DLE
