I've found it interesting to hear you Army and Navy net guys tell stories about
the happenings during WW2.

I was a monitoring officer with FCC's RID from 1940-1944, in Hawaii 1942-43. We
used Adcock direction finders for determining the location of suspicious radio
stations. To improve the accuracy of the bearings we also took reference
bearings on known stations near the frequency of the one being located, because
variations in the ionosphere affected the direction of the received signals.

Our best reference bearing stations were of the Army, Navy and RCA
Communications. Consequently, I often used WAR, WVY, WTJ, the Presidio station
at 'Frisco (can't remember the call sign), NSS, NPO, NPM, NPG, and many other
Army and Navy stations.

Little did I know then that I'd someday converse with, and even meet some of the
guys whose fists I heard during WW2. Small world!
