Regarding the post from Tom W4YOK and early high power AM broadcast stations 
en La Frontera, XERF was one of the best known stations.  It is an 
interesting thread in radio history as it was one of the most remarkable and 
powerful transmitters in North America.  I listened to the station and DJ 
Wolfman Jack in the wee hours of the night on my crystal set as a kid in 
South Texas.  The station program format featured religious programs, most 
of which sold fake articles and health remedies with outrageous claims.  If 
you travel to Del Rio, Texas you should visit the museum of history there to 
see the photos of the famous radio station started by one Doctor Brinkley.
