Bill.....of course you are correct.....those of us who have been dedicated
CW operators for all of our time in amateur radio know very well what the
future holds.
It does not mean however that we cannot continue to enjoy our beloved CW
mode and encourage others to participate.
It is always gratifying to see the CW activity during the FOC marathon ,
the CW Sprint , Sweepstakes and other contests. Likewise the DX contacts
made on 6M using CW.

I would not go so far as to call it a precourser of things to come (or to be
deleted from Part 97), but if I were a betting man (and I am not) I would
almost wager that the next "restructuring" completely does away with
mandatory Morse testing. I would also almost wager that within 5 to 10 yars
of this happening that Morse will fall in interest to about the level of
full carrier AM oprations. That being, it will never really disappear but
it wll no longer hold the place of prominence that it did, or even does
today.

I'm looking at my 2000 Edition and it's the same, a page or two of
abbreviations, so I wouldn't say it's an earthshaking development.
