Ed,

Precisely what I said was "The FCC started issuing WN9 Novice calls (WA9
after upgrade)...." I was referring only to those WN9 calls which would
become WA9's after upgrade. Of course, previously WN9 calls were issued
(and re-issued) to Novice-class licensees who would become W9's after
upgrade. The reason that my original Novice call was WV2MBR is because the
FCC tried to avoid duplicating Novice call signs between WA2 novices &
re-issued W2 Novices. This caused too much confusion & the FCC only issued
WV prefixes to Novices in the 2nd & 6th call areas. All other call areas
had WN prefixes issued to those who would become WA's after upgrade.

Perhaps Ray you mean "reissue WN9" calls. My initial WN9MGS call was
issued in November 1954. I had a buddy who was issused a KN9Dxx call in
55 or 56, I forget which.
