November 19, 2005: Tom Azlin, N4ZPT, speaks on the Marine Corps  
Marathon & Packet Radio

"For 28 years, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) organizations  
in the DC area have organized amateur radio operators and their  
portable/mobile equipment to support the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM)...

"For the last two years, Tom has coordinated all aspects of packet  
data radio communications from the Aid Stations. This network was  
added because it can move messages from the race course more swiftly  
and accurately than voice radio can...

"This year's MCM used an amazing variety of technologies to track and  
time the runners...

"At the beginning of his talk, Tom gave a brief history of the  
development of amateur packet data networking...
