>During the Wednesday night QCWA CW Net (7.035 - 24:00Z) we were
wondering how we could work our members and W2MM on their Alaska
Cruise. I volunteered to find out, and gave Larry McCalvy (WA9JMO) a call.
He e-mailed me the following information. Some of you might want to make
a contact.. I hope those on board have a great time !

>Hi George,
>
>I'm sorry I missed your call this evening. When I returned it was a bit
>late to call so I thought I would give you the information via email.
>
>I have attached an onboard frequency use guide that I hope the three HF
>station will at least give a few call on before moving elsewhere.
>
>This way if anyone wants a copy all you have to do is forward this message
>on to them.
>
>We should be on the air about 8 AM Alaska time on Monday, August 22nd. We
>will be using three ICOM HF rigs and hope to get the 110 volts of A/C from
>the ship. We have permission to operate once we are three miles out of
>port. But there may be a few folks that want to operate as soon as they
>can, so W2MM might be on the air Sunday evening after about 10 PM Alaska time.
>
>We should be close enough to shore and cell phone tower site to use cell
>phones. I for one will give it a try.
>
>And we are going to try and run up a weather balloon off the rear of the
>ship with a long wire antenna attached. I am going to pick up four small
>tanks of helium in Anchorage and haul them to the ship. We are looking
>forward to some great contacts if we can keep the balloon up.

QCWA 2005 ALASKA CRUISE CONVENTION
RADIO OPERATIONS & FREQUENCY GUIDE
We have special permission from the Bahamas Maritime Authority & Public
Utilities Commission to operate within
Amateur Radio Frequencies on the m.s. Veendam from 21 to 28 August 2005. We
will operate under the CEPT agreement.
You need only your current FCC operator's license. We will provide the
necessary CEPT agreements for everyone.
The ship is Bahaman territory and we will be in U.S. and Canadian waters.
Permission is granted to operate on
board when the ship is three (3) miles away from port. Please be aware of
your location when using a transmitter and
act accordingly. As always, the Captain has the final say on all Radio
operations.
Non Canadian amateurs in
Canadian territory must ID as:
your call/VE7
Non US amateurs in
US territory must ID as:
your call/KL7 (Alaskan area)
your call/W7 (Washington State area)
All Amateurs should follow the rules for
international travel with their license. In
International waters we strongly recommend
a suffix of /MM (maritime mobile)
