I've had several members question the 1948 date for Bill being issued 
KN0ORB.

That was taken directly from the write up Bill gave to the Spring Journal in 
2002 when he ran for director.

           While the Novice license was a successful introduction to Amateur 
Radio for most
           of its 50-year history, the FCC has not issued new Novice 
licenses since April 2000,
           when the FCC's most recent Amateur Service license restructuring 
took effect.

While not definitive, this would seem to indicate a run of about 1950 to 
2000.

>From the  chart that Gene, K5DLE put together  to use for recruiting new 
members, K(N)0O?? calls were issued in 1958.
