Joe......the station was located in the War Dept Munitions Building on
Constitution Ave.....was called the Message Center....a huge room with at
least 35-40 operating positions and 20 or more teletypes along a side wall.
The receiving site was Battery Cove, MD
The transmitter site was Ft Belvoir, VA
Shortly after I left in the Fall of 42 they made a transition move over to
the Pentagon.
It wasnt very long before all the CW circuits started to be phased out with
the development of high speed radiotype.
It is with some degree of sorrow that on Armed Forces Day now the cross band
operations from AIR/WAR/NSS etc do not include any CW whatsoever.
Times have changed...
