Dear Shirley, my deepest sympathy in your loss. Thank you for troubling during your grief
to let us know about your father's passing. So many families these days do not let us know
when one of our members depart, and with licenses being issued for a ten-year term, it
means that their names are carried in the official records, sometimes as long as more than
nine years past their date of departure.
It would also help, if you would be so kind, for you to notify the FCC and the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL). This can be done by:
1. Sending your father's Amateur Radio License, together with a copy of his death
certificate (it need not be a certified copy) to: FCC, PO Box 1020, Gettysburg, PA 17326,
requesting that his license be canceled.
2. Sending a letter informing them of your father's death, to: ARRL, Atten: Silent Key
Administrator, 225 Main St., Newington, CT 06111.(This should be done even if your father
was not a member of ARRL). This will cause his name to appear in QST (Amateur Radio
Magazine) in a column titled "Silent Keys."
Sincerely,
J Harvey Chase (W4TG)
