John:
Hate to bust the media bubble over there, but that is happening to
Americans in France, Germany and Belgium too. We've had more than a few
attacked over here. Isn't talked about much, and it's not just words. =
The
days of sitting on the sidelines seem to be mostly over on this issue.

It is odd the during the height of the Cold War, US and USSR stationed
continued to QSO. As you say, Ham Radio was apolitical.

As for the Ukrainian Ham boycotting the US, I have seen similar things =
from
this side. I support the War in Iraq, but I was saddened to see a ham =
friend
in France harassed off one of the Ham reflectors for the actions of his
government. He was truly vilified, and I was embarrassed. (He had made =
no
comments concerning Iraq, politics, etc., he was just attacked because =
he
was French).
=20
I for one, am noting the calls of all stations that engage in these
practices, Russian, Ukrainian, Frence, AND US. If in the future all =
their
CQs are met with silence, maybe they will get the hint.

I'm not sure what response is appropriate here. The gulf (no pun
intended) between the appeasement policies of Europe (so finely stated =
by
men like Neville Chamberlain and the Vichy French) and the U.S. is =
widening
daily. If it spills over to the airwaves, I don't think I can take a =
"this
is Ham Radio, it's apolitical" point of view this time. I don't know;
voluntary bans on QSO's with DE/F or ON amateurs seems like a fine place =
to
start, even if I, as an ON9, am affected.
=20
I know I'm probably going to get a broad range of responses; we had hams
working like crazy during the recent North Korean Dxpeditions; I would
rather have lunch with Hitler. Still, this is over the top and really =
makes
me angry.
=20
Any comments?
