After reading about a 100 e-mails this last day or so on the subject of CW.=20=
=20
Most are for keeping it
and some against keeping it. But I think most are missing the real point.
I have been an Amateur for (a Ham, more ways than one)! 49 years. I was=20
licensed in 1954, first
as a Novice (1 year), a Tech and then In July 1955 I pass the 13 WPM code=20
test (After taking it 6
times) I got my General Ticket. After retiring from the USAF I got my=20
Advance Ticket at the last
time the FCC come to Okla. City before turning all testing over to the VEC=
=E2=80=9Ds.=20
Now I not saying I
did so should you and I don't work much CW any more. My true love in Ham=20
Radio is Mobile
Work, in fact I have more DX from my Mobile than I do from my home station.=20=
=20
CW was not one
of my brighter areas in Ham Radio.
My reason for not wanting to go with no Code is what it might do to the=20
further of the Amateur
Radio. I know people who could study the book and pass the written test, an=
d=20
not really know to
much about any thing. We need something there that will cause someone to=20
have to put out
some effort to get a Ticket. Look at what happened to CB Band when the FCC=20
done a way with
licensing CB Operators. They lost control of that band very quickly. If yo=
u=20
have to work for
something, you more as likely wont do any thing that would cause you to lose=
=20
it, Lowering the
standards will sooner or later will cause the lost of Ham Radio as we know i=
t=20
today.
Look at this way:
1. Take a written test for a drivers license, but no driving test.
2. Take away all inspections in the building of buildings or houses.
3. Take a way of all inspections of tires being made for cars, and=20
Airplanes.
4. Remove all standards for making of a car or truck.
Well, enough of that, I think you can see the point I am trying to make. =20
Lower the standards on
any thing, and soon it wont be there. Regardless what comes down, it will b=
e=20
the FCC that does
it.
