Since I have been active as a Volunteer Examiner since 1985 and an
Engineering Professor with the Air Force institute of Technology, I have
a slightly different perspective which may be worth considering.
Students and hams are tested with many questions on a variety of topics.
The variety is so broad, there is not enough time or money to get
involved in all the topics. In a ham test, there are questions in
aspects of the hobby that I have no interest in. But, others are very
interested in those topics. It would be very impractical and
unreasonable to design tests around only the aspects of interest for
every individual. Also the aspects most individuals are interested in,
tend to vary over time. One of the aspects to be tested in is Morse
Code proficiency. I do not claim to be a fast CW operator, but do find
it relaxing to work some code, especially after a stressful day at work.
It is interesting that CW can be therapeutic. I believe the wide
variety of topics should continue to be tested, including Morse Code.
