I started with a modern rig -- we had a DX-35 :)  Used it with a BC-779B.

I never had one, just talked to people who did.  Our rig was a DuMont,
on 146.94 simplex (remember when that was the SIMPLEX frequency, except
for those on 147.3 who went up there to get away from the Techs?)
