Our web site was updated this morning. Point your browser to:
http://homepage.mac.com/rrucker/chapter91.html
The following new items were added:
1. April 19, 2003: Bill Moneysmith demonstrates Panning for Gold
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Bill, W4NFR, a member of our chapter, and Bill's XYL, Lydia, joined us
for lunch. After lunch, Bill entertained us with stories and videos of
their gold-panning adventures in Virginia and Arizona..."
The article includes photos taken of his panning demonstration and
of their recently collected gold samples.
2. Photo album for our April 19, 2003 meeting.
-------------------------------------------
Includes pictures of members, both old and new, our several guests, and
auctioneer Ray Johnson, K5RJ, in action.
NOTE the icon of two slides labeled "Start Slideshow" near the top right
of the album page. Click once on the icon to get a frame-by-frame
full screen presentation of each of the photos in turn. Click on
the right arrow in the lower right-hand corner to move to the next one,
and the left arrow to move to the previous one.
Added previously was an article on a field trip we took in March, but a page
layout problem (which I didn't discover until today) prevented a panoramic
photo taken by Pete Norloff, KG4OJT, from always displaying correctly. So,
please check this article out again:
3. March 15, 2003: Tour of Fairfax County's Public Safety Comm Center
------------------------------------------------------------------
"When a citizen dials 9-1-1, an emergency call-taker immediately in
Fairfax County's Public Safety Communications Center (PSCC), Annandale,
VA, immediately answers and says: "9-1-1, what is your emergency?"
"Frank Stoda, KA4TRG, the manager/engineer for the county's Public Safety
Radio System, told us all about the operations of the PSCC and let us
observe them in operation from behind the glass." (You may recall that
Frank gave us a presentation on Virginia Task Force 1 (VA-TF1) last
July, and the article and photos can be found under archived events.)
The article contains pictures of Frank, call takers and dispatchers in
action, and the panoramic photo by Pete. The problem was that, unless
the size of your browser's window is made large enough, a photo of Frank
and the panorama would conflict, resulting in Frank's photo alone
appearing. The problem was solved by moving Frank's picture lower down
in the article. So if you ever notice such an anomaly, please bring it
to my attention so it can be fixed.
