What email program are you using? I have used several different ones on
both the PC and the Mac, and all allowed the user to turn off HTML
formatting on all outgoing messages, regardless of how they were originally
composed by you or anyone else.
I saw that someone on this reflector recently posted how to turn off HTML
categorically in Outlook Express so I won't repeat those instructions, but
for anyone using Microsoft's Entourage on the Mac, the procedure is as
follows:
Go to Mail & News Preferences, click on the Compose tab, and find the window
labeled Mail Format. In it, select "plain text," and click OK.
