Keep up the good work!
Its great to see another VHF+ enthusiast in our illustrious group (QCWA
that is). There are those in the amateur community that label us as
non-innovative, DX chasing, Brass pounding bunch of curmudgeons. I
personally can lay claim to being 2 of the above, but I still try to be
innovative.
As a past President of Chapter 45 and current President of the Orlando
Amateur Radio Club, I try to insist that programs are presented at our club
meetings try to inspire members, young and old to explore new aspects of
our great hobby. To that end I even pushed for, and presented a program
in basic VHF/UHF operating at the QCWA Convention hosted by Chapter 45 here
in the Orlando area a few weeks ago. What surprised me was the number of
attendees. I was gladdened by the large number who, seemed interested in
learning about the "Weak Signal" aspect of VHF+ operating. Comments were
all positive (at least to me). Many stayed after the presentation to ask
questions (especially since the free Wine and Cheese Party followed my
scheduled time slot in a different part of the hotel) and provide great
feedback to me.
Congratulations to one of our great group who continues to "Push the
Envelope" of our hobby. The old adage of "use it or lose it" applies to
our VHF+ frequencies. 10GHz is a band that few operate but will be in high
demand soon by commercial interests and deserves all the attention it can
get. I'm working to get 10 GHz added to the current VHF+setup here (as
soon as I can figure where to add the dish and transverter on the present
tower).
