Yes, Larry, that is a really hard nut to crack. Fact is QCWA and OOTC
have a very hard time trying to determine whether the life members with
whom they have lost contact (mail returned), are still alive or just
incommunicado. I tried to help QCWA on this a few years back (when Ted
Heithecker was General Manager) and was not very successful. And more
recently tried the same for OOTC, with only minimal results.
It's hard to realize that the SK column in QST probably misses at least
half those who have passed. Family members just do not think it is
important to let member organizations know when a relative belonging to
a specific group or organization passes. This is true for other
organizations and groups as well. We need to do a better job of
discussing such notification channels with our families. Some people are
just not into record keeping, I suppose.
